In Your Love, and Everyone else's

Hey y'all, it's Shane tonight and I don't want to waste time so let's get right in to it. Tyler Childers released the music video for his newest song In Your Love, this past week and to say it's been a trending topic is putting it lightly. By now we've all seen the memes, the tiktoks, and the outcries for the display of 2 gay men in the video. Many believe politics and left vs right, to be influencing the industry but I challenge anyone reading this to take another look. Now I can only write from my perspective but what if, we all just took the song for what it is... the artistic expression of love. An artist, painting a picture with words. For many of us if we listen to this song we envision a woman. We see ourselves as the narrator conveying our love to the woman we desire, longing for that type of love that is undying and unconditional. If you've been in a relationship you know it takes work, dedication, and tending to. When it's found you do anything you can to hold on to it. My question is, why should we be the only ones that hear this song and feel that level of connection? If the video hadn't been made the way it was, this is a song that is played at every straight wedding for the next decade or so... but by choosing to portray the video from the point of view of 2 gay men, he added so much more depth to the art. Everyone knows the struggles of a relationship, and just how hard it is to keep it together sometimes. Imagine going through that while most of the world is rooting against you, wanting you to fail. "It's a long hard war, ah but I can grin and bear it, cause I know what the hell I'm fighting for" takes on so much more meaning in that context. We use the term freedom, but more often than not it seems most don't understand the full meaning of that word. No matter what people say or think, love who you want & fight for what you love.
